Throughout the years, home heating has changed and evolved. For decades, the only option that people had for heating their homes was burning wood or coal. By the time the air arrives at its final destination, it usually has cooled down significantly. This type of system is quite inefficient since a lot of heat is lost during the process.
Underfloor systems are much more efficient. For one thing, the heat is created in the room where it will be used. Instead of having to be moved through ductwork, it rises directly up into the room from the floor, minimizing the amount of heat that is lost. This can significantly reduce the amount of energy that it takes to heat a home.
Another benefit of these systems is that the heat tends to stay in the part of the room where people actually are. Because the heat rises up from the ground, it is warmest in the low to mid-range parts of the room. This is in contrast to forced air systems or radiators where the warmest air tends to blow upward toward the ceiling. This is far too high to provide heat for the occupants of the room. By the time the air travels back down into the room, most of the heat has already been lost.
Because underfloor heating systems are so energy efficient, they are a smart choice for a modern home.
